F Kitty Math

Today was a CHALLENGE for a change

Working in groups counting Squares

Counting was fairly easy and fun

Students were encouraged to take turns and listen to one another.
They monitored each other.

Challenge came when I asked to combine squares and recount.
Tomorrow we get to redo but with individual sets of 1s,2s and 5s.
Our goal is to see how many DIFFERNT ways we can come up with combining and counting.

F-KITTY , Here us BUZZZZ...with knowledge!

Website

Our classroom web site is under construction.   Here I will include many sections about our classroom, routines, schedules or materials we use everyday.  Thank you for being patient with me.  The address is beeready2beempressed.  Additional email invitation will be sent soon.

Science F-Kitty in First Grade

There is no FCAT in first grade but I like to introduce F Kitty.
This is where I tell the kids to shine and show what they know.

We have been working and completing our Living Things/Plants Unit.  We seldom get to break open
any paint so we painted our hands and made our own classroom garden.

We discussed the Needs of a Living Organisms and the main parts of a plant.

I was able to make numerous and wonderful observations.  We all enjoyed this activity today.
I had to beg everyone to please let me keep their work and display them.  They are so very proud of their
finished project.

FKITTY (AKA...FCAT)

Hard to believe that we are in the middle of April.  Good luck to our 3rd,4th, and 5th grade students and not to mention all the rest of middle and high schoolers.  In First grade we do not have FCAT but I do dedicate this time going over test taking strategies, updating our Data Notebooks and familiarizing ourselves with upcoming expectations for 2nd grade in Reading, Writing and Math.  My personal goal is to provide time for individual "Data Chats".  Stay tune...more pictures will be added.

First Day Back!

We returned to discover our Celery Stalks had drank much of their water!
We had fun exploring each one.  Ask your child to describe to you what it felt like?

I cut the stalks and handed everyone their very own cross section
to inspect and draw their findings.

Piece by piece

Today in Social Studies we reviewed what a compass rose is and it's use on a map.  I blew the dust off our pull down maps and the students were in awe...you would have thought it was a new technological devise but better. No wires, pens, cursor or batteries.  We followed up with a giant floor puzzle of the United States.  Using several maps I encouraged them to team up  to name states and use new vocabulary; north, south, east and west.  Piece by piece; state by state and rotation after rotation they all worked together and added to their work.  They completed!

Our "100" Day Celebration Projects!  They were all fabulous and very creative!

Read Across America

Going along with our theme ,Wacky Wednesday, we started with our last subject first and ended our day with our first subject.  We came up with words to describe our socks we decorated yesterday.  Getting first graders to understand 'adjectives' is rather tricky.  Thinking like a first grader I asked them to use their senses.  What do you see, feel, hear, smell or taste?  Fortunately, I did not have to touch or smell any socks in the completion of this assignment. Pictures to come soon.
Today was a great day!

CC Junior Deputy Fair day!

Hard to believe my son attended this morning. My husband and I can remember going when we were in fourth grade, though   decades ago.  Time is flying by, I want it to slow down.

Being Sick is no fun!

So being sick is no fun for me as i am sure it is for no one!!! this is unlike me and i am going for another follow up on monday afternoon. i do hope to make it and not sit in urgent care over the weekend. im looking forward to church tomorrow, afternoon softball practice for my daughter and birthday party for my son. i can't wait to relish in some reading, blogging and pinning while waiting. so my sweet and caring husband made me a home remedy for my coughing spell last night; i know his heart was in the right right place but he nearly sent me to the ER. anyone have any home remedies that help with coughing and congestion? honey lemon and a shot of clear expensive stuff was not good for me. im sure under other circumstances that may have been fun...but not lately.

Yeah for Saturday

Really want to get out and make my to do list but I think I will live by  the moment today.  I'm enjoying the Su.rise.
